WORLD WORKS by Peter Spaans
28 Nov 2013 - 01 Dec 2013
The Gallery presents the most recent art project WORLD WORKS by Peter Spaans.
Spaans writes about the project:
WORLD WORKS is a biographical archive, a visual search for knowledge and beauty, evoking questions about the movement of time and my changing consciousness during the past 60 years of my existence. All of us have a different story to tell about the same period of time, although we share similar human experiences, see what is happening around us, hear the same music. In short: we recognize society as such.
I started this project in 2011, exposing my life by means of memories, photos, letters, my art projects, family and friends, internet, old newspapers, and the combination of all these media.
I go through my archives, I take pictures, I scan, photocopy, use photos from the internet and films, I cut and paste, combining everything so as to connect my own life with the world of others.
WORLD WORKS unravels the sixty years of my life as a complex whole that unveils my esthetic preferences, thus evoking questions about what touches, fascinates and provokes me. Things I want to share with others.
Eventually this will become one big chronological archive. I will stop adding and collecting for this project at 24:00 oclock on December 31st 2013, my 60th birthday.
At the moment (beginning of December 2013) I have more than 300 collages, measuring 61x 95 cm, 14 of which are books, 3 bound, containing all 300 collages at a quarter of the original format.
Addition of large collages, books on this project, as well as the internet version of WORLD WORKS will be further elaborated in 2014/15.
