View on the World Map 01 02 03 | Centre, 2013
View on the world map is a series of works in which Annesas Appel returns to one of her main sources of interest: the human projections of knowledge into maps. In this project: the Political World Map. Preceding map-oriented projects have been Atlas in Lines (2007) and Border Frequencies (2012). In her new project Appel expanded her view on maps in representations and classifications. Appel extracts, separates, eliminates, measures, adds and re-interprets projections of the world map, ending up in visual works of a different kind and in different media.
view on the world map now consists of 4 books, an installation classification of 223 felt models and an installation length of 223 objects of rolled paper tapes; the project is still open for additional works.
Digital works on paper, handmade books in accordion form, composed of central point co-ordinates of all countries of the world (scale 1: 6,550,000), each represented by green lines on paper. There is an index of all countries and their individual green color. Each book is related to one third of the original world map. The addition of green co-ordinates has been executed in reversed alphabetical order.
